"Poise"

Today's word is poise. I want it.
  • Having a composed and self-assured manner
  • Having a graceful and elegant bearing

Yay, blog...

So I've been re-watching my favorite show ever, The Pretender, lately - I just started season 2 - and I have noticed some odd things upon researching the show:

[1] The building used for The Centre is actually the R.C. Harris Water Filtration Plant in Toronto, where I am currently going to school. The building is terribly beautiful. Being the nerd I am, I have visited it quite a few times already.
[2] The majority of filming was done in California, where I am heading next.
[3] Andrea Parker's favorite female role that she would have loved to play is that of Emma Peel. Miss Parker and Emma Peel are two of my three favorite female characters (the other being Xena.)

On the subject of school, I am having to play some serious catch up with this fashion make-up business. Pretty much all of the other girls in class have been using and applying the stuff for years while I have... not.

In other news, I am trying to stop biting my nails, as well as other bad habits that are not conducive to social butterflying. One week and counting!

Canadian Thanksgiving is tomorrow. I'll give some thanks when the money in my bank account becomes available. I feel like it is in quarantine, sheesh. I dislike being poor. Yet another reason to learn as much as I can and become as good as I can. I don't want to have to do this "scraping by" thing again.

Today's new word was delivered caustically as ever by Miss Parker. Semiotic- the layers of meaning which may be embodied in a simple set of representations. It is concerned with the meaning invested in the sign and the signifier (the physical representation of the sign).

Miss Parker: Oh, a viewmaster with no reel. How tragically symbolic.
Sydney: Why tragically?
Miss Parker: Because it means I'll be forced to listen to you attach some greater semiotic meaning to that toy.
